This becomes apparent when you look at applications like Peer-to-Peer (P2P) where the client can configure which port it uses to access the internet, which can be as easy as telling it to use the standard web browsing port of HTTP/80 - which nearly all standard firewalls will allow out unrestricted. Also, with mulitmedia applications like BBC iPlayer, which also uses the same connection as standard web browsing, these can be viewed by endusers without consent.
